Financial Literacy

Part of being independent is learning to manage your money. You will need to develop a budget to plan how you will use your income to pay your bills and what you have available for things like clothing, entertainment and savings. Local resources include:

Programs delivered through the Management, Housing, and Consumer Education specialty area are designed to help families establish and/or improve their economic self-sufficiency by learning how to make effective economic decisions, including learning to pay bills on time, establish and effectively use credit, reduce debt, and plan for financial emergencies.

Piedmont Housing Alliance offers Money Management classes periodically at CATEC. The eight-session series is offered free of charge in evening sessions held weekly. The series covers budgeting and spending plans, bank services, creating a savings plan, managing checking accounts, protection from identity theft, credit scores, and borrowing basics.
