Modified Standard Diploma
This diploma is intended for certain students at the secondary level who have a disability and are unlikely to meet the credit requirements for a Standard Diploma. The student's Individual Education Program (IEP) team and the student's parents determine eligibility and participation, at any point after the student's 8th grade year. Beginning in school year 2000-2001, students must earn 20 units of credit and pass literacy and numeracy competency assessments.
Students entering the 9th grade in 2000-2001 and beyond must pass the 8th grade English (Reading, Literature, and Research) and mathematics Standards of Learning tests to meet the literacy and numeracy requirements. Students may substitute a higher-level Standard's of Learning test (i.e., end of course English [Reading], Algebra I, Algebra II, or Geometry) for the 8th grade SOL tests in English (Reading, Literature and Research) and mathematics or other substitute tests approved by the Board.
