Services:
The BIS program meets the needs of adult students by offering part-time study with evening classes. Students planning to apply to the BIS program complete 60 transferable hours including core and prerequisite requirements and transfer to finish their degree at the University of Virginia. Classes, taught here in Charlottesville, are offered year-round.
The BIS degree program offers concentrations in business, humanities and social sciences. There is also an education option for those interested in pursuing the Alternative Route to teacher licensure in Virginia.
Admission counselors are available to meet with prospective students regardless of how many college credits you have completed to review transcripts and assess how close you are to meeting our graduation requirements.

Note in the Admission Process:
Students do not need to take the SAT (Standardized Admission Test) for admission.
There is no foreign language requirment.
BIS Admission Requirments:
High school graduation
at least four years prior to enrolling.
60 hours of transferable college-levelwork with a grade of 2.0 or better from one or more regionally accredited colleges or universities.Courses presented must be eligible to transfer to the University of Virginia.
Within the 60 hours, 30 credit hours must satisfy the requirements of the Liberal Studies Core:
- 6 credits hours of English composition
- 6 credit hours of humanities
- 6 credit hours of social science
- 12 credit hours of mathematics and/or natural science
Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 from the institution they attended most recently and be in good academic and social standing at that institution.
Applicants must be in good financial standing at the University of Virginia.
Applicants must complete the Computer Competency requirements at the time of admission or within two terms of enrollment. Students must demonstrate competency in using email and the Internet as well as a range of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

Tuition & Fees
In-state - the per term tuition for 2004-2005 academic year is $880 for 1-3 credit hours; $1,780 per term for 4-8 credit hours; and $2,653 per terms for 9 or more credit hours.
Required fees per term are $92 for in-state students.
Out-of-state - the per term tuition for the 2004-2005 academic year is $3,277 for 1-3 credit hours; $6,554 for 4-8 credit hours; and $9, 834 for 9 or more credit hours.
Required fees per terms are $98 for out-of-state students.Financial AidStudents seeking financial aid should file both the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the University Financial Aid Statement.
