Services:

Screening Evaluations in the identification of students with learning disabilities, attention disorders and other factors affecting academic functioning.

Documentation Review for students arriving at the university with a previously identified disability to determine eligibility for academic accommodations.

Accommodation Memos are prepared each semester at the request of students for accommodations by their professors.

Clinical Consultations and Walk-in Services for students receiving accommodations and/or seeking assistance with academic difficulty.

Reading Program with the Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D) provides books on tape for students with visual impairments and reading disabilities.

Peer Notetaking Program for students with physical and/or cognitive disabilities etc.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services are available for students including American Sign Language Interpreting, Computer-Assisted Real Time Transcription (CART), the use of Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) etc.

Eligibility:

All University of Virginia students are eligible to be served. One need not have a documented disability to be served.

The LNEC staff is available to meet with prospective students and their families regarding disability accommodations and support services available.

Intake:

Self-referral.
Contact the office to schedule an appointment.

Fees:

Student fees cover initial meetings.

If a further general assessment is warranted (short test battery) and feedback to the student, this is also covered by student fees.

If further diagnostic evaluation were needed, the student would be referred into the community and would be responsible for the expense.

All supports and accommodations provided by LNEC to eligible students are provided at no added cost to the student.
